Soon the Beast of the East will be a distant frozen memory and it will be time to whip the covers off Monty, Gertie, Sybil and Elsie in readiness for this, our 6th season of glamping adventures… Bring it on. One of the things we love most about life here on the Mad Dogs glampsite is how each season offers different perks and a family glamping trip during the Easter holidays can be super rewarding. The copse, home to the Mad Dogs campfire log circle, shower shack and cosy Mess Tent, is a blaze of green and tiny yellow Spring flowers, the mornings are crisp and the evenings are light.
Family Friendly Vintage Vans
All the vans have logburners or radiators and there are thick blankets, quilts and hotwater bottles to ensure everyone can keep toasty. After being cooped up inside with the central heating blaring for months on end this is the time to get outside, embrace the Great Outdoors and embark on new family adventures. Our vintage van doors open on Friday 30th March in time for the Easter weekend.
Days Full of Family Adventure
Here at Mad Dogs & Vintage Vans we are delighted to team up with Inspire2adventure who offer a range of fab family activities making full use of the stunning Wye Valley and Forest of Dean right on our doorstep. All their activities are suitable for children aged 8 years and up. Here are a few of Jo and Sacha’s favourites:
1. Gorge Scrambling
How does climbing waterfalls, scrambling over rocks and balancing along ledges sound? Wet? Definitely, but also good fun and an excellent family bonding exercise. Minimum group size is 4 and you should allow half a day for this adventure. Top Tip: return to the glampsite to toast marshmallows over the campfire.
2. Open Canoeing on the River Wye
A trip to Mad Dogs & Vintage Vans just isn’t complete without a paddle down the river. In this half day or full day adventure you will be guided down a picturesque section of the River Wye and learn the skills and techniques needed to hit eddies and take on the rapids at Symonds Yat. Top Tip: have a well earned pint of something in the centuries old Saracen’s Head afterwards.
3. Gorge & Paddle Adventure Day
A popular choice for families – combine both the above activities and make a full day of it. Top Tip: take advantage of our Van Service and order a delicious home cooked dinner from us in advance.
4. High Ropes
You’ve had your river fix, time to head off into the canopy and hit the high ropes course. You’ll start off with low level challenges but as your confidence builds so does the height of the challenge. Great for testing your nerve and pushing yourself. Zip wires, trapezes and flying through trees guaranteed. Top Tip: holidays aren’t just for children – Mums can book gorgeous nurturing and rejuvenating holistic treatments during their stay with us courtesy of our Glamp n Pamp service.
