The Glampsite

Mad Dogs & Vintage Vans is nestled in a wildflower meadow in the grounds of a Grade 2 listed Old Rectory that looks directly west over the Wye Valley towards the Black Mountains and the Hay Bluff. With our big skies and views, sunsets here are spectacular.

A moment’s walk away you’ll find the showershack and campfire within a pretty piece of woodland. It’s a place that’s full of charm and wonder for kids and adults alike featuring mature trees, dappled light and wildflowers – perfect for building dens, swinging on a tyre and toasting marshmallows. A stay with us all about enjoying the simple things – cooking over a campfire, birdsong and magnificent starry nights.

The devil is in the detail and we like to think you will have everything you need for a perfect stay. Monty, Sybil and Gertie feature cosy wood burning stoves and all the vans have vintage quilts, blankets and hot water bottles along with feather duvets and pillows to keep you warm and toasty. We have made every endeavour to make the glampsite as environmentally friendly and sustainable as possible. Lighting is by way of low level solar, fairy lights, lanterns and candles making for a magical atmosphere.

Guests are welcome to use the Old Rectory tennis court.

Mad Dogs Deli

We’re proud of Herefordshire’s excellent food heritage and we also want to support our immediate local economy. In our honesty store we sell bangers, bacon and burgers, farm eggs, freshly ground coffee, butter, cheese, homemade jams and chutneys, delicious ice cream and the best traditional method ciders from prize winning local legends Greggs Pit.

Whilst staying with us you might like to use our ‘van service’. Enjoy a night off campfire cooking duties and have home cooked food brought down to you. Curries, Chilli con carne, crumbles, vegetarian and child friendly dishes are all on the menu.. just ask.

Campfire Cooking

Nothing beats cooking over a campfire and food tastes all the better for that smoky flavouring. Our campfire has a traditional romany tripod and cast iron cookware and griddle with log seating around the fire and the summer kitchen is right there for wet weather days. If guests want their own space, each van has its own firebowl and grill for BBQ cooking with a touch of privacy.

All vans have a coolbox and there’s a communal fridge and freezer in the car park for storing perishables. Here you’ll also find kindling, charcoal and firewood.

The Summer Kitchen

Our light and spacious dining hall is made from upcycled materials and timber, with floor to ceiling glass on the western side. It can host candlelit celebratory dinners of up to 20 guests and should the Great British Summer be in full swing, the space is perfect for kids’ arts and crafts. There’s a log burner to keep things cosy, a two ring gas cooker and all the pots, pans and cooking equipment you need to cook up a feast.

The ShowerShack

Made entirely from upcycled materials, the showershack is chock full of character. There’s hot water on demand and complimentary organic toiletries, a flushing loo (with a second composting loo located close by) and not forgetting the pink sink, a Mad Dogs toothbrushing institution.

Here you’ll also find the washing up station and all the kit you need for food preparation, eating and drinking.
